You know you homeschool when..

At 7:45 on Saturday morning you seven year old interrupts your shower to show you something.

The encyclopedia!

He's on to the "B" (last week was the "A") and found the baby section. The proceeded to read to me the stages of development for a baby.

"At 18 months she'll be able to feed herself with a spoon. And at 12 months she'll be able to stand be-fly."

It was adorable, he was honestly excited about this information. Oh and just in case you didn't know be-fly is the new briefly.

my new kick!

We're still on the smoothie kick. They are great, especially when you put veggies in them.

Tonight for dinner was grilled chicken and a romaine, banana berry smoothie. Yes lettuce! It was good very fresh tasting. So easy, no slaving over the stove. Also no guilt because they're not getting any vegetables and the kids think they are great. I ended up making four batches because everyone wanted more.

They only thing is I need a bigger blender. Right know we're borrowing a magic bullet and is just doesn't hold enough. It would be great for a single smoothie but when divided by four of five it just doesn't cut the mustard.

I'm thinking of coming up with four recipes to coincide with our four day food rotation.
Kale, carrot, banana and raspberry
Spinach, blueberry and peach (Flax seeds!?!?!)
Romaine, cucumber, apple, and strawberry
Mixed greens, grapes and orange (maybe add a little oatmeal?!?!)

I know my kids eat pretty healthy but they are much more apt to eat fruit that veggies so the idea of them sipping up a cup of veggies with out a fight sounds too good to be true.

Happy blending!! Hope you had a good weekend.

Cool Treats!

Green smoothies! Yummy! Okay they look a little strange but they really are tasty. These are 3 cups of spinach, half of a banana and some frozen raspberries plus a little water. All you taste is the banana and raspberries. The wine glasses help the timid give it a whirl. Everybody drank it gone. Homemade popsicles! Just 100% juice. Treats for the health food Nazi's. Baby approved!

Imput needed!

Okay my three readers I need your advice. The hubby is having and open house for his work to show off the new "showroom". I offered to help with the food because I love to do that kind of stuff and he kindly took me up on that offer.

Here is the kicker they sent out 500 invitations!!! 500!!!! I was thinking 80 to 100 builder or so not 500!!! Obviously they won't all show but still it is going to be a lot of people. The crowd will be kind of lets say "upper class". People that have concrete counters and acid stained basements and huge stamped patios with big price tags are well usually loaded well off.

So here is the info. The open house is form 12 to 6. It probably shouldn't be little wieners but nothing to crazy and food poisoning inducing as shrimp. I also have to be able to easily refill as needed. I have no way to cook food once I'm there and I have to work out of coolers. So please tell me what would you make.

Here is some ideas
Guacamole (store bought but doctored up a bit) and blue corn chips
Fruit- watermelon, grapes, pineapple and strawberries
Veggies and dip celery, baby carrots, cucumbers and maybe peppers
Hummus and bread sticks
Cheese and crackers
Sweet and sour meatballs (are meatballs to white trashy? I think they are tasty;)
Lemonade and bottled water
Store bought mini pastries

What do you think? I can't think of another good hot dish. And how much do I make? Please advise!!
